How to Apply for Solar Subsidy Under PM Surya Ghar Yojana — Step-by-Step

Exact step-by-step process to apply for the ₹78,000 PM Surya Ghar solar subsidy in India — from National Portal registration to DBT receipt in your bank account.

How to Apply for Solar Subsidy Under PM Surya Ghar Yojana — Step-by-Step

The PM Surya Ghar portal is the gateway to your solar subsidy, and it is run by MNRE in coordination with state DISCOMs. While the screens look bureaucratic, the underlying flow is straightforward. Below is the exact 10-step process used at every Siyag Group installation.

Documents you should keep ready

  • Recent electricity bill (must show consumer number, sanctioned load, DISCOM name).
  • Aadhaar card
  • PAN card
  • Cancelled cheque or bank passbook copy (for DBT)
  • Two recent passport-size photos of the consumer
  • Roof photographs (overhead and side angle)

Step-by-step application flow

Step 1 — Register on pmsuryaghar.gov.in

Click Apply for Rooftop Solar. Select your state, DISCOM, and enter your electricity consumer number. Verify with OTP sent to your registered mobile.

Step 2 — Submit consumer details

Fill in your name, address (auto-fetched from electricity bill), email, and other contact info.

Step 3 — Apply for feasibility

Enter the desired solar capacity (1, 2, or 3 kW for max subsidy). The system checks your sanctioned load.

Step 4 — DISCOM technical feasibility

Wait 7–15 days for DISCOM approval. They verify line capacity, transformer load, and roof feasibility.

Step 5 — Choose an empanelled vendor

Pick from the state's empanelled vendor list. Siyag Group is empanelled across multiple states. Sign a vendor agreement that locks the price and timeline.

Step 6 — Pay and install

You pay the vendor the full agreed price (you receive the subsidy from government later, separately). Installation usually takes 3–7 working days.

Step 7 — Submit installation details

Vendor uploads installation photos, equipment serial numbers, invoice, and inverter details to the portal.

Step 8 — Net meter and inspection

DISCOM installs a bidirectional meter and conducts a final inspection. Once approved, you get your commissioning certificate.

Step 9 — Add bank details for DBT

Upload cancelled cheque to receive subsidy via Direct Benefit Transfer.

Step 10 — Subsidy credited

Within 30 days of commissioning, the CFA is credited to your bank account. You get an SMS notification from PFMS.

Common rejection reasons (and how to avoid them)

  • Consumer number mismatch — always copy from your latest bill, not memory.
  • System size exceeds sanctioned load — request load enhancement before applying.
  • Non-empanelled vendor — only empanelled installers' work qualifies for subsidy.
  • Substandard equipment — only ALMM-listed panels and BIS-certified inverters are accepted.
  • Bank account / Aadhaar mismatch — name on bank account must match Aadhaar exactly.
